I heard GREAT things about the Icebreaker t-shirts. In fact, I might pickup a few for my next trip.

Also, agreed with the shoes choice. I currently carry running shoes (Nike) and more casual going out shoes (Adidas). Would be nice to combine the two.

I agree with you here, man. People in America have way too much stuff. I can look around my room right now and see that 90% of the things I have I don't really need. Traveling is a sort of cure for that, because we're forced to only bring with us what we can carry.

great post mate, I too am a one bag traveller. Something I've just discovered to cut down on the amount of clothes I carry are these shirts made from Merino wool. I got a black t, so it goes with everything, doesn't crease, washes easily and you can wear it for a couple of days without it stinking up… really cool. Get a couple of these and you're set. I just wash them in the shower.
Here they are on amazon, not cheap – but can cut down on your packing.

I'm also considering buying a pair of nike free runners. You can obviously use these for running/city walking, but get a plain black pair, and you could also use them for going out..

Have you had any dreams involving or maybe even entirely in Portuguese? A lot of times that lets you know when you're really starting to crack the language.

My Spanish is at a decent level. I'm currently reading a novel in Spanish without too much difficulty, and I speak pretty well. My audio comprehension needs work. I'm thinking of starting another language next year, probably German.
