Will she date a foreigner?
Being a foreigner is great in many ways. You get off the plane, and instantly trying to soak the culture around you. There are many factors that will determine the quality of the trip, but for single guys or gals a big part of that will be the ease of hooking up with the locals.
On one hand being a foreigner is great at hooking up. You’re cool, exotic and exciting and locals want to get to know you. You may be from an interesting country with a great reputation like Italy. On the other hand, you’re just a visitor, having no idea about cultural norms, the local language, etc.
I used to think that being a foreigner gives you higher status and easier ability to pickup due to the exotic factors mentioned above, but while that sounds right in theory, in reality things are a bit different.
Since I used to live Ukraine and dated many Russian/Ukranian girls, let’s use this culture as an example.
Russian Dating
When it comes to eligible Russian girls, they’re generally two types. The first type rarely (if ever) travel abroad. She may work for a national company and has very limited access to foreigners. Her English skills are still at the same level when she was learning it in high school. She also rarely watched Western TV or reads other Western media.
So why would someone like this even bother with a foreigner? Be the guy English, American or Indian?
The main reasons are the cultures are just too different. A foreigner would never get Russian sense of humour. A foreigner would never appreciate the customs in a Russian restaurant. Even if the foreigner learned the language (and Russian is a very difficult language), there would subtle slang and jokes that would require many years of living inside Russia to fully understand.
The second type is someone who has the money and/or drive to travel around the world. Perhaps she’s been to Italy and loved Spain. She loved Paris and thinks Western men are much more sophisticated than Russians who do nothing but drink. Last but not least is that she speaks English very well, fluently. Now someone like this would be perfectly open to dating a foreigner.
Brazilian Dating
After living few years in Brazil, I learned that Brazil is pretty much the same way. Here’s another country whose culture is very different from any other country — be it a European country or someone next door like Argentina. It’s a country with a unique culture, language, customs and traditions.
Since most Brazilians love their country very much, and rarely travel outside its borders, those that do are a rarity. The ones that have been to America or Europe tend to speak pretty good English and usually have dated and are open to dating foreigners.
So, while each foreign country greatly differs when it comes to hooking up, similar patterns remain in place. Specifically, what’s the level of exposure to the foreigner’s culture? This factor, perhaps more than any other, will determine the reception you receive from the opposite sex next time you’re approaching that hot brunette at the local watering hole.
